Vee & Ethan’s Woodland Wedding at Greenslate Farm | Merseyside Wedding Photographer

A love story full of creativity, fantasy, and laughter

Some weddings stand out not just because of the venue or the dress, but because of the couple’s imagination and personality shining through every single detail. Vee and Ethan’s wedding at Greenslate Farm in Wigan was exactly that kind of celebration — unique, heartfelt, and beautifully unconventional.

As a Merseyside wedding photographer, I’ve captured many love stories, but this one felt truly magical. Inspired by their shared love of Dungeons & Dragons, fantasy worlds, and storytelling, their wedding combined rustic woodland charm with creative symbolism — from the axe and forest stump to the delicate jars filled with butterflies and forest details.

It was a day full of emotion, laughter, and just the right touch of fantasy — perfectly reflecting who they are as a couple.

A calm morning surrounded by nature

Greenslate Farm is a hidden gem for couples who dream of a relaxed outdoor wedding. Nestled in the countryside, it offers a peaceful setting surrounded by trees, fields, and winding paths — a place that feels straight out of a fantasy tale.

When I arrived, soft sunlight filtered through the leaves, and the gentle hum of nature set the tone for the day. Vee looked radiant in her flowing gown, her bright pink hair adding a bold, magical energy to the scene. Ethan, in his deep blue suit and brown brogues, complemented her perfectly — elegant yet relaxed, just like the day itself.

Every detail reflected their personality — creative, genuine, and a little whimsical.

The ceremony at Greenslate Farm

Their ceremony took place in a small clearing between tall trees, surrounded by family, friends, and the soft sounds of nature. A simple wooden table held glass jars decorated with butterflies, flowers, and leaves, symbolising transformation and growth — a perfect metaphor for marriage.

Next to it stood a tree stump with an engraved axe, representing strength, unity, and their shared love of adventure. It was both symbolic and personal — a subtle nod to their D&D world, where teamwork, courage, and stories always matter most.

As Vee and Ethan exchanged vows, the moment felt deeply personal and beautifully raw. You could sense their connection — the laughter, the emotion, the quiet joy of two people fully present in their moment.

Symbolism and fantasy touches everywhere

What made this wedding truly unforgettable was how seamlessly they blended fantasy and real life. The axe, the forest setting, the butterfly jars — all these details created a storybook atmosphere without ever feeling staged.

For Vee and Ethan, this wasn’t about trends or traditions — it was about bringing their world to life, celebrating love in the way that felt most authentic to them.

As a photographer, I love these kinds of weddings. The moments unfold naturally, filled with personal meaning, and every photo tells part of a bigger story — one of creativity, emotion, and genuine joy.

A walk through the enchanted woods

After the ceremony, we wandered through the woodland paths for a couple portraits. The tall trees, golden leaves, and soft light made it feel like walking through a real-life fantasy setting.

Those quiet minutes gave us space to capture some of my favourite shots of the day — relaxed, intimate, and full of warmth. Vee and Ethan walked hand in hand, talking and laughing, completely in their own world.

That’s what I love about outdoor weddings: no rush, no pressure, just authentic emotion framed by the beauty of nature.

A celebration at The Post House

The celebration continued at The Post House in Orrell, where the rustic woodland atmosphere gave way to a lively, modern setting full of laughter, great food, and friends catching up.

The contrast between the two venues — from forest ceremony to stylish restaurant — perfectly matched the day’s balance of fantasy and fun. Guests were served hearty plates of burgers, fries, and cocktails, and the atmosphere was relaxed and joyful.

These are the moments I love capturing — the clinking glasses, spontaneous smiles, and the energy of people simply enjoying life together.

Working as a Merseyside Wedding Photographer

Being a Merseyside wedding photographer means I get to tell stories that are as unique as the couples themselves. From romantic woodland ceremonies to creative indoor celebrations, every wedding brings something new — and Vee and Ethan’s day was the perfect reminder that love stories can be as imaginative as you want them to be.

Their connection, humour, and creativity made photographing them a true pleasure. From the symbolic axe resting on the stump to the laughter-filled cake-cutting moment later on, their story had personality written all over it.

I always aim to capture weddings in a natural, documentary style — blending fine-art composition with real emotion. Whether it’s a tearful hug, a shared laugh, or an unexpected moment, those are the details that make photos come alive.

The most unforgettable cake cutting ever (with an axe!)

Later in the evening, it was time for one of the most memorable cake-cutting moments I’ve ever photographed. Instead of the traditional knife, Vee and Ethan brought out their ceremonial axe — the same one from the ceremony — and used it to cut the cake together!

Everyone burst into laughter, cheering them on as they playfully “chopped” into two beautifully decorated cakes. One cake had a woodland theme with tiny mushrooms and moss-like textures, while the other featured edible flowers and small figurines of woodland creatures — a perfect nod to their fantasy-inspired aesthetic.

It was fun, bold, and completely theirs.

Candid moments that tell the story

Throughout the day, Vee and Ethan’s focus was on being themselves. They didn’t want stiff, posed portraits — they wanted real, storytelling images that captured who they are.

That approach made the photography flow naturally. From the emotional hug after their vows to the laughter during dinner, each image tells part of their journey — full of joy, authenticity, and connection.

Why I love creative and alternative weddings

As a Merseyside wedding photographer, I’m always inspired by couples who bring their imagination to life. Vee and Ethan’s day reminded me why I love photographing alternative weddings — they allow creativity and storytelling to shine.

You don’t need to follow every tradition to make your day meaningful. What truly matters is personality, love, and the story behind the details — whether it’s an axe, a butterfly, or a handmade cake topper.

These are the weddings that stay in your memory forever.

Final thoughts

Vee and Ethan’s wedding at Greenslate Farm and The Post House was a celebration of love, imagination, and authenticity. It proved that when you stay true to who you are, your wedding becomes more than an event — it becomes your story.

Congratulations again, Vee and Ethan! Thank you for letting me capture such a beautifully personal and joy-filled day.
